Engine Light

I jump started a co workers car tonight or should I say tried to . long story short they connected to their side wrong and I got a surge. we got them disconnected quickly but my car ran funny for a few all my lights came on and it shifted hard. I shut it of and on a couple of time and everything went off. ( warning lights) drove it home no problems performed just as it always has but the check engine light has remained on. Can I reset this myself? It accelerated fine and shifted fine no problems on the way home just over a 35 mile ride any help would be appreciated .

Hey I went out after I woke up, about 5 minutes ago lol and I started it and the check engine light was off. wont be jump starting anyone agian soon. But with that being said I'm going out and buying a portable jumper soon!
Just in case, disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes to clear/reset the computers.

You should be fine as long as it didn't blow out any fuses.

...thanks for sharing.
I jump started someone with the connectors "the right way" and then within a week both of my front day-time running lamps needed bulb replacement (at 20,000 miles and only about 8 months after I purchased it). My personal belief is the electrical system is a little fragile so I think it is prudent to purchase a portable jumper rather than risking your Rennie being a Good Samaritan. W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum.

On that same token; The DRL are a 12 volt incandescent bulb, and the Renegade has a 14.8 volt (14.6 I don't remember) charging system.

12 volt incandescent bulbs don't like more than 12 volt too much.

And to think, our Renegades have 2 main computer systems and 40-ish computer modules. The Battery and charging system is a crucial part of the total operating system.

The engine, transmission and drive train are very important, but if any one of the computers or one of their modules fail, you are stuck dead in the water.
I have had no issues since then, bought a portable pack.
