I believe its an optical sensor behind the rear-view mirror
Could someone tell me how these work?
Hi Andy & Judy,

I'm not sure what year your Renegade is but on Page 106 of the Owner's Manual for a 2016 states:

"Rain Sensing Wipers - If Equipped This feature senses moisture on the windshield and automatically activates the wipers for the driver. The feature is especially useful for road splash or overspray from the windshield washers of the vehicle ahead. Rotate the end of the multifunction lever to one of the two detent positions for intermittent settings, to activate this feature."

You can download your vehicle's Owner's Manual from the Knowledge Center at www.mopar.com for more information on Rain Sensing Wipers. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Note, there are two sensitivity settings. I found the higher setting works best for me.
There are rain sensitive settings for both the front and rear. Very convenient!

Under settings on UConnect, look under safety something or other. Then, you can turn on the rain sensing wipers option. Mine doesn't work very well. They come on during a car wash, but not when it's raining.
I turned mine off, got tired of them going off in the car wash as I never remember they are on. lol
